From our modest beginnings in 1939 as an automobile sales and repair concern, to growing into a diversified conglomerate operating in over ten sectors, today we are one of Sri Lanka’s leading Public Listed Companies contributing to the economy and enriching the lives of Sri Lankans. We are committed to creating value responsibly and with integrity, representing some of the best global brands, and building successful brands under the DIMO umbrella.
DIMO was founded in 1939 by four entrepreneurs, Pandithage Don Alexander, Stephen Peiris, Harold Algama and Cyril Algama. DIMO was incorporated as a Private Limited Liability Company in 1945, and in 1949, entered into partnership with Lohmann & Company, Breman, Germany through Mr. Heller, a prominent businessman in Germany. In 1964, it was converted into a Public Quoted Company by listing at what was then known as the Colombo Brokers’ Association.
Although the company’s initial core business was automobile sales and repairs, it has grown in size and scope over the past eight decades to offer products and services that range from seeds and fertilizers to medical engineering. Today, DIMO is a leading engineering company in Sri Lanka, with over 1,750 employees, and an annual turnover of Rs. 37 billion (2021/2022).
